(Farnsworth voice) Good news everyone! The website we've been working on has officially launched! It's main purpose is to help children whose parents are deployed cope while they're away. It has activities to help keep them focused, videos about the countries their parents could be going to, and a bunch of other stuff.

I did illustrations mostly and helped out with animations. We even got to bring in a few of my college buddies to help out towards the end, like Chris from Sparkflow Studios and Karrie S.

So on to the stuff! Please keep in mind I only did front end work!

This is the Avatar Game I worked on. Kids get to build their own character which will show up on their Passport. Click here to try it!

Threads of Fate is probably one of the first RPGs I've ever played. Does anyone remember that game? No?...I'm old. Anyway, I was playing recently and felt the urge to draw the two main characters Mint and Rue.

I liked Mint a lot because she was energetic and had big dreams (world domination). But I liked Rue's story a bit more because it was deeper and you learned a lot about his past. Character development is always my favourite part.

There's probably gonna be spoilers in this post so yeah.

Alpha Technogoddess and I have been playing Catherine Non-stop for the past week or so. And I think my favourite character is probably Jonny. But my favourite 'Lost Sheep' is probably Archie. I'm not 100% on his background but from the things he says it seems he was abused as a child by his mother. He makes it really high in the overall climb but he dies eventually. I really wish he'd made it he was actually an ok guy. His past seems to have made him look at women in a negative light so now he uses them for their money and leaves them promptly after.

He learns his lesson a little too late though poor guy.

We work on a lot of Kid-related projects at my job and of course we have to test out the 'product' to see if it'll work for the kids...right?

We did some home made play-doh and these are the results:

If you're viewing my actual blog and not just the one that pops up on my facebook (unlikely). You will notice (to the right) a list of appearances and conventions. They're just places I plan to be or were at. And you may have also noticed that one of the places I was going to be was 'DON'T GET CAUGHT' the gallery opening of the art of Charlie Owens.

The opening was held at the newly moved Art Whino in the National Harbour. I had a lovely time and actually bought a print to hang in the bedroom of my new apartment (which I have yet to move into).

Marcus and myself were pretty excited about the showing having seen a little of his art and loving his style we wanted to chat a bit with the artist but alas, I am shy and awkward. Marcus had to ask if Mr. Owens would take the picture (below) with us and I showed him a doodle I drew (inspired by his work) while waiting for the rain outside to stop (it didn't).

Oh the awkwardness of me.

New current TV obsession BBC's Sherlock! I'm always tardy to the party...but in case you are somehow as late as me; Sherlock is a modern take on the Sherlock Holmes mysteries. There's lots of texting, general shenanigans, and free-running. In short-I'm in love.

I had (yet another) allergic reaction to something and found my face swollen when I woke up. I feel quite like a prisoner n my own home. Luckily- I was able to work from home today and (thankfully) I finished everything I needed to and had time left to ~~slip into a Benedryl induced coma~~ draw.

Bilbo Baggins!

So since I'm stil all over this LoTR kick, my friend Gary took me and Tokie to a bar/restaurant called Bilbo Baggins! I had no idea this was anywhere nearby and was overjoyed! Inside it was pretty much like a normal bar (not the den of dorkdom I excpected/hoped for). Except some of the taps were shapped like Gandalf and some of the food was named after Hobbits (we got 'Sam's Garden' Pizza and giggled like idiots at 'Frodo's Salad'). I tried Victory Beer for the first time and think I might be in love! (Sorry Guinness!)

So here's the front entrance and the cool picture on the door~

Harry Potter 7 1 of 2 and Cirque Du Soleil

I thought I'd write this while waiting for adobe cs5 master collection to install. I went to Cirque du Soleil with my co-worker Antonia and we had a BLAST. I would really like to go again but at $160 a ticket i'm more than happy to relive it in my mind...

The acrobatics were amazing (as per usual) as always and the theme was 'Totem' so there were lots of cool Native American skits and dances. I feel like suck a little kid whenever I watch things like this. 'Tonia and I were openly amazed at the stunts and flips performed (much tot he dismay of the 'cool' teenagers sitting next to us). Anyway, I can't wait till next year for the next one!

I spent my Easter with Janine and we watched the 7th Harry Potter movie as I'd never seen it before. It was almost like I'd imagined and I was fairly happy with it. Having read all the books I don't put much stock in the movies but I often feel like if I hadn't read all the books before seeing the movies I wouldn't know what was going on.

Anyway....

I drew Ron and Hermione and I might finish this. I have no idea what to draw for Otakon. :<

LoTR and the Smith Bell

This past weekend I went to a wonderful play called Liberty Smith, with the lovely Janine and Marcus! It was basically a play about how all the best stuff in history was done/said by Liberty and other folks (George Washington, Paul Revere, Ben Franklin, etc). It was so much FUN. I had high expectations and they were met. Love it when that happens.

Anyway the whole reason we went to see Liberty Smith was because Janine's friend, Greg was in it as Libby's best friend, George Washington. He put on a wonderful performance and I plan on seeing it again before the show's over!

Annnnd we found out The Arlington Draft House was holding a Lord of the Rings movie marathon and it was the perfect end to our 'Geekend'. Since its a draft house we basically sat around drinking beer, eating snacks (and in my case doodling) for 10 hrs.

I wouldn't've had it any other way. Of course this spawned many a LotR doodle...

At my job we have something called Timecard Compliance. It basically if you (knowingly) fill out your timecard wrong you're lying to the gov't (who're the ones paying us) you're a felon. I went and asked my buddy Antonia if she'd done her timecard since it's the end of the pay period. When she asked what would happen if she didn't I told her she'd be fucked. She didn't respond this way. But it'd be funny if she did.

This basically stemed from the fact that we're planning a Wizard of Oz role reversal photoshoot where your's truly will be playing the cowardly lion, my pal Tokie will be the Scare Crow, Maureen will be the Tin Man, and Hilda will be handling the Photographying!

This is a design for my buddy from work's coed baseball team the Aluminum Falcons! The shirts were gonna be blue hence the one with the blue bg. I gave her the option of shiny (my fav) vs. non shiny and they (wisely) chose shiny. You can probably guess where they got the joke...but in case you can't click here!

I seem to be doing a lot of art for folks these days int he way of logos and what have you. Not complaining. Just something I'm noticing (they will all be added to my resume!)

Dieting

So there's this dress I'm gonna try and stuff myself in by the 23rd. Not that I'm huge now or anything...I've decided that dieting is the best way to do it! I've also decided that when I eat healthier I amd very unsatisfied and have to eat millions of meals in a day (which is supposed to be good as long as they're small...)

So Yesterday I had:

Breakfast: Salmon and Cream Cheese on a Mini Bagel

Snack: Frosted Mini-Wheats

Lunch:Yogurt and some Carrots (because I effin love Carrots)

Snack: I don't remember. Problay a banana or something...

Dinner: Pasta salad with spinach (which I also love) and 2 perogies (feta cheese and more spinach om nom)

...holy carbs Batman! I think I burnt them off though. *shrug* I've also been trying to decide if I should be working out in the morning rather than in the evening.

Pros: I'll just do it and get it out of the way!

Cons: I'd have to get up stupid early, Might make me late for work, I'll be all tired (and irritable :3) at work...

The list goes on. The only downside of working out after work is all I really wanna do after work is go to sleep.

But!

I may have found a solution to all of this! My job has a gym in the building! I could got here after I get off and work out and then go home eat dinner and pass out! I dunno. I need to be more organized anyway.

So starting weight was 143 lbs (ouch) lets see how much I weigh by dress time!

...awww yeah. Me and a few friends from school (namely Chris and Sako) started an artjam with a few more of our other friends. We do these artjams around midnight to 3am so lately I've been too tired from work to participate but here's a few pics for our previous prompts: One of the first prompts was 'Venom'. I love Venom because he hates Spiderman as much as I do.

The Cap'n was also one of the first prompts. Unfortunately, I know almost nothing about Captain America. So I went with what I did know, cereal!

I did some Valentine's Day Cards for a few friends this year and distributed them via facebook. Otter-Story Follow-up!

So...I teamed up with a group of fellow illustrators and animators to put together an animated short about sea creatures in an Aesop's Fable-ish setting to a song my friend's awesome band made. Be sure to click that link. Because they are awesome.

Then I decided I didn't like narwhals that much and did some otters instead! Otters are awesome and cute.

This is my final design for my otter character. I've decided he teaches a village boy how to fish because otters are awesome at that. I'll upload the lad when I draw him.

My friend Tammy recently got married and I started doodling this after looking at some pictures I took at her beautiful wedding. She's a HUGE TMNT fan and I thought she would appreciate it. I myself and a medium fan of the actual turtles but I used to like Shredder a LOT when I was a kid. I had Turtle action figures and a Shredder one. I used to take it everywhere until I lost it (most likely in a Kmart or someplace similar).

I'm interesting.

Homg this was more fun than it should have been. A friend commissioned me to draw his 3 cats as rappers...and of course I said 'Yes!'. Looking at it now I wish I had done some things differently but overall I'm happy with the end result.

Also...I drew (and never finished) this for mother's day. Now I kinda wish I had finished it although it looks like the mom is picking the daughter's pocket. These folds and stuff are the only ones I think I'm really proud of!

Kitchen Love Update

So I've finally decided to get back to work on 'Kitchen Love' now that my commissions are done (presently). I finally started on the backgrounds (my least favourite part) and did a few more foods.

This is kind of a mock-up of what it will look like in-game. The text box will be a little more elaborate and should say something similar to 'Ok! I'll use these 3 ingredients!' You'll be able to click the fridge and the cabinets to pick out ingredients.
Here's a few more foods I added. Do the shrimp look like shrimp? And the box will be a box of Noodles.

Valentine's Day Contributions

These are mine...

Generic Valentine's Day card thinger. This took about 15 minutes.

This one was a collaboration between myself and 3nrique (http://enriquerivera.blogspot.com/). It's a hypothetical book jacket for a Spanish romance novel. The title means 'The Man of the House' because according to Enrique that's what his name means. The seal is from the publishing company 'Harlequinn' who publishes saucy romance novels, check them out (if you're into that sort of thing). Both of these pictures are 3nrique himself. If I can find a book this size I will totally wrap it with this jacket and take some pictures.

This is Sean McKibbens. She lives with her father, Aiden McKibbens (comic book artist), and her mother Michelle McKibbens (lawyer). She's an only child and a so-so student. Her parents feel she might be lonely and decide to get her a pet.

On the way to a shelter they happen upon an abandoned house. Within Sean hears someone crying. Her parents only hear meowing. There's only a space large enough for Sean to squeeze through in the boarded up house. She wriggles through and discovers a kitty. Fainting and on the edge of starvation the last thing he sees before he blacks out is Sean's face inches from his asking if he's ok.

This is Keith. The kitty that Sean found in the mess that was once his home. When his owner died animal services never came to pick him up, leaving Keith to fend for himself for nearly three weeks. Keith is good at lots of things that neither Mr. and Mrs. McKibbens are good at, like cooking and cleaning and looking after Sean.

I don't want to give all the story away but this is a little thing I'm doing for my portfolio too. It has a sad-ish beginning but the story is mostly about Sean and Keith and their adventures. My target audience is kids and preteens so it won't be too hardcore as far as abandonment and the parents not paying a lot of attention to Sean.

His name is Piper! Ever since I was a kid, I wanted a dog and also a cat! How greedy of me. But I'm a total animal lover. Anyhow, this is portfolio work as well. I feel bad because I haven't worked on KL at all. But hopefully that will change soon!

Kitchen Love

A long time ago we had a class where w had to make our own games. I came up with a rather stupid game called 'Creative Cafe' in which you choose from several ingredients to please a rather famous food critic.

I've revamped almost the entire game to the point that it's a borderline dating sim. The main character (yet to be named) asks a girl out but realizes he has no money to spend on a lavish first date. Instead of panicking he takes her to the restaurant owned by his family. At the door he's greeted by his sister and told that they are in fact short staffed. At first the Main Guy refuses to help, explaining that he's on a date. The girl he asked out, Berry, is suddenly pleased asking if he'll make an 'extra special dish just for here'. How can he say no to that? So it's into the kitchen where he decides from an array of ingredients to please his would-be girlfriend!

And Up?

I didn't love Up as much as I thought I would. I'm not sure why though. Some characters seemed 1 dimensional blah blah....but it was beautifully animated. Good stuff. But Star Trek. Oh my God. So good. I've only ever seen the original series (I didn't like the Next Generation) and I liked it when I was 6 so why not now, right? "The cadet's logic is sound."
I always liked McCoy. He's so crotchety and old, when I grow up I want to be as cranky and mean as he is.

On the job front...nothing but commissions right now and the lovely Mrs. Kaiser has decided to give me a 'Mommy's Helper' gig. Basically I tag along with her to places like the Aquarium and the park and help kid wrangle (except for Joshua who can't walk yet). I expect I'll be starting whenever she needs me.

Nothing to report as far as art.

They called me into the office last Monday and said 'So you're internship's up. Have you been looking for other jobs? :D' And I gave them the blank stare this question (and comment) deserved. As many of you may well know it's pretty difficult to find a job right now so I'll be mooching off of my Mom like the dead-beat I am until I find some income. I plan on using this time to update my portfolio.

Which is a piece of crap right now.
